Anu and I watched Water (Deepa Mehta) today.
Of course, the movie itself is superbly done. Poetic. Halting. So "cruelly" beautiful. Its the perfect paradox.
One cannot help falling in love with the little chuhiya, the beautiful Kalyani (Lisa ray), the wise lady whose name I dont remember, the Nationalist (John Abraham).
Water, is non judgemental. The tone of the movie is just a story. Set on the banks of the Ganges, in holy Banaras. Some very wise dialogues - make you just about wonder, if there was a message. Heck, what has to be conveyed, is totally conveyed on celluloid - let there be no doubts.
The movie ends on the note of the rise of New India. One free, not just from colonization, but also from blind faith, rigourous repressive beliefs. Id like to call it the India with a conscience.
Water, truly does feel like a movie that cleanses. And anything purifying, is holy. Watch it as a stand by for a piligrimage of human society.
