Punished

A scale in hand, I judge and claim
The lil lad has done much wrong
Not a tear I see, nor a lil shame
He should be punished, punished for long

I stare with eyes very cold,
My heart all hardened, frozen, Bold
The lil lad shows no remorse
I must let justice take its course

All the village, come, throng
To see the lil lad bleed
He had indeed been very wrong
For evil must be squished in the seed

The village gets angry,
For the lil lad is not sorry
The village pelts stones at him
The whole thing, so awry!

I want to see him squirm a bit,
But then I see that I cannot stand it
I save him from the blows, the hit
He aint sorry, not even a bit

The villager comes and asks me
"Why not an eye for an eye?"
I show him my healed wound scar,
I cannot let him die and stand by

I know what it means to be punished
I have seen the scenes before
I know we grow wiser with age
I was punished too, in the days of yore
